We expect a lot from our animal care volunteers. First, we require at least a one-year commitment for any animal care volunteer to be considered for the position. Volunteers have one 4hr shift each week and are required to have at least a 75% attendance rate. Our animals need to be fed every single day and volunteers are responsible for finding coverage for their shift if they need to call out. We also need people with reliable vehicles who are able to get here even if there is a snowstorm or other weather hazards. Volunteers must be able to work holidays. Be aware of that when choosing a day to apply for (if you are on a Thursday shift, you will be working Thanksgiving each year, etc.). The PPP – Paycheck Protection Program, IELD – Economic Injury Disaster Loans, and COVID-19 Relief funds have all missed the Black business Community.

Hospice Volunteer Training October 5 - 26 on Wednesdays from 9:00am -12:30pm in Portsmouth, RI.

We are seeking compassionate adults willing to share time with our hospice patients and their caregivers. Hospice volunteers complete a comprehensive training on end of life issues, bereavement care, communicating with compassion, confidentiality and interdisciplinary care teams.

Volunteers with special talents in sharing music, expressive arts, Reiki sessions or pet therapy are welcome.

Our volunteers also provide caregiver relief, visit with patients, run errands to support the patient and family.

There are opportunities to provide support behind the scenes with newsletters, bereavement and community education.

Must have your own reliable transportation.

The work taking place in offices throughout the organization are critical to supporting our healthcare workers and patients, alike!  Help is needed in different departments at Women & Infants and Butler Hospitals as well as Corporate Services to organize files and information, create packets of materials to educate and inform, input data and information, prepare mailings or support other clerical projects.

Gallery Night Providence offers free art tours on the third Thursdays March through November.  Trolley tours leave from our hub at the chic landmark hotel The Graduate (formerly the Biltmore) and our auxiliary location at the amazing WaterFire Arts Center.  Volunteers are needed on each of those nights at both locations to:  greet and check in tour goers, guide tourgoers to trolleys, set up and take down banners and other material.

Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice is seeking volunteers to provide pet therapy visits for our hospice patients.  If you have a wonderful, fully trained and certified therapy dog, we welcome you to join our hospice team. You can choose to visit patients and their caregivers on Aquidneck Island, Bristol, Warren and Jamestown.

We ask for a once a week commitment, but it depends on your availability.

The visits will be to homes or long term care facilities. There is a convenient and comprehensive online hospice training that you would be required to complete before volunteering.

Greet and support patients, families and staff in the Infusion Center at Women & Infants Hospital.  Help facilitate the flow of non-clinical activity during the patients' chemotherapy treatments.  This may include providing comfort items, assisting with meals and snacks, offering companionship, organizing information and materials for use by staff and others.

Strong candidates for this position are compassionate, friendly and are able to work independently following training.  Bilingual skills are helpful but not necessary.

Our trainees work to create a line of high-quality preserved foods using ingredients sourced from local farms and sell those goods at farmers markets—while building a stable foundation to maintain employment beyond their time in the program.

Harvest Kitchen is part of Farm Fresh RI’s initiative to increase the variety of value-added local farm products available, and part of our mission to create a community based food system. Harvest Kitchen focuses on offering opportunities for youth to understand how their activities connect to the food system, and the local food movement at large, while gaining the necessary skills and experience to pursue their personal and professional goals.

The MLK Community Center in Newport, Rhode Island is seeking (a) volunteer(s) to help provide basic marketing support to our Marketing & Events Coordinator. Absences

Docents are needed to conduct tours for the public of Smith's Castle, a structure built in 1678.  Greeters are needed to staff the main meeting room where tour-goers assemble and accept payments.  Training and costuming provided.  If interested, docents can also participate in youth education programming both on premises as well as in schools.  Background checks are required.

Time commitment:  two 4-hour shifts (noon to 4 p.m.)  per month from May through mid-October.  

Must have ability to climb stairs.

APRI is looking for part-time front desk and administrative support at its main office location in Providence. Duties include answering phones, assisting with office tasks, and helping greet clients who are arriving for appointments or for HIV testing, as well as other special projects. To assist with various on-site work projects in maintaining, improving & renovating building space in downtown Providence. The work projects may include painting, renovating, repairing parts of the building. Looking for licensed individuals who are skilled in specific areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and willing to do work as in-kind donation.

Multiple volunteer opportunities are available in our 5,000 square foot Thrift Store. Help us create displays to show off our unique merchandise, or sort clothes and jewelry to prepare them for sale. In addition, starting in October we are looking for volunteers to assist with holiday merchandising.

Sales from the Thrift Store directly support our ability to assist clients through our food pantry and emergency financial assistance.

We have two new percheron horses that are 13 and 6yrs of age that we rescued.  They are very green.  Their feet were in terrible condition and we are working on getting them healthy again.  In the mean time we need to start a regular training program for them to be broke to ride.

We are looking for 2-3 days a week for them to be worked for 1.5-2hrs

help finish clearing acre of land to build our indoor riding arena.  We have several large trees that need cutting down.  We also have some smaller trees left. 

Brush can be burned on burning days so do not need to remove that.

All wood can be taken for firewood or what ever you can use it for.

Clean stalls, sweep barn, set up night feed and water. clean horse paddocks and refill horse water troughs.

We are looking for a volunteer weekly landscaper.  Mow and weedwack lawn.  Lawn mowing takes approximately 1.5-2 hours and weed wacking takes 4 hours.

Hospice volunteers provide a range of support and companionship to patients who are facing end of life and to their family members. Whether going to visit, lend a helping hand, play cards,  provide a listening ear, read to or simply be a quiet presence so they are not alone, hospice volunteers are specially trained to connect with patients in their homes.  

Some volunteers provide their support out of the office of Hospice Care at the VNA of Care New England in Warwick.

Show people from the neighborhood or far away the home of Rhode Island's own Founding Father, Signer of the Declaration of Independence!Lead tours through eight unmodernized 18th century rooms, filled with period antiques & family heirlooms, telling the stories of Stephen Hopkins, his wives, children & slaves over four decades of America's colonial history. Walk the floors trod by George Washington, and meet visitors from (last year alone) 37 foreign countries!

Did you know that there are over 4,000 kids in RI with an incarcerated parent?  And approximately 65 of those children/youth between the ages of 7 and 15 years old are currently waiting for a positive mentor like you!?

A RISE mentor is a caring adult, at least 21 years old with a car (or access to one), who wants to support a mentee by exposing them to new activities, sharing life experiences, helping them find a job, or just having fun together!

Mentors make a commitment of 6 hours a month for a minimum of 1 year.

Self-Reported Volunteer Hours for RI Advisory Commission On Historical Cemeteries

There are 3,500 cemeteries in RI and many of them need raking, pruning and general maintenance.  I can find a cemetery near your home.

 Brayton Cemetery is a 7 acre Cemetery located in the City of Warwick, the village of AApponaug.  We will be raking, trimming bushes, and pulling weeds. Please bring a rake, clippers, and gloves.

A help line where residents of Rhode Island seeking basic human needs assistance such as food, clothing, heat, rent, etc. call to be referred to the SVDP conference that takes care of their location.  Volunteer/s needed to staff the phone during office hours Monday through Friday.  Shifts can be 8 hour shifts from 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m. or 4 hour shifts (8:30a.m. to 12:30p.m. or 12:30p.m. to 4:30p.m.).  Responsibilities would include answering the phone, referring individuals to the appropriate location for assistance, and taking a brief intake on a computer, etc.  Training will be provided.  Must be able to climb stairs.

Grant writer and researcher for assist with finding and writing grants for our basic human needs and education programs, as well as our operating.  Strong written and verbal communication skills a must.  Successful experience in grant writing and reporting is a plus.
