Volunteer: Volunteer on Farms with Hope's Harvest

Want to get your hands dirty, visit local farms, and support local communities facing food insecurity? Volunteer with us!

Hope's Harvest runs multiple 2-hour-long gleaning trips each week throughout the growing season in summer and fall at farms in RI and Southeastern MA. Each gleaning trip begins with an orientation and a harvesting demonstration for the crop(s) we are harvesting that day. Volunteers help us harvest, sort, and pack the gleaned produce for distribution.

Gleaning with us offers volunteers the opportunity to spend time outside on local farms with other volunteers and learn about local food systems while also giving back to their communities.

Register to Volunteer

Volunteers register on our website and can find volunteer opportunities for the upcoming week in our volunteer newsletter, which gets sent out every Saturday morning. There is no obligation to sign up for specific trips, and no previous training or skills are required to participate. You choose what date, time, and location works best for you.

About Hope's Harvest

Hope's Harvest, a program of Farm Fresh RI, mobilizes volunteers to rescue surplus food from local farms that would otherwise have gone to waste and distribute it to hunger relief agencies across Rhode Island. This practice, known as "gleaning," reduces food waste on farms, improves food security in our local communities, provides economic opportunities for local farmers through contracting and surplus purchasing, and improves community resilience by increasing the amount of locally grown produce consumed in RI.

Hope’s Harvest RI partners with farmers and food pantries to ensure that our friends and neighbors in need have access to fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables and our volunteers get their hands dirty making a tangible, positive difference for their communities.

Volunteer: CASA Training for Volunteer Child Advocates (RI Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children)

CASA volunteer child advocates needed!

You can make a life-changing difference for an abused or neglected child!  The RI Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children program (CASA) is constantly seeking volunteers who can give 8 - 10 hours a month to provide a voice for children in DCYF care who are also represented by the CASA program.  Due to COVID-19, we are not running our usual schedule of in person trainings, we are considering dates for future trainings at this time.  Safety considerations are always paramount.

CASA advocates within the court system for children who, through no fault of their own, find themselves involved with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and the Family Court.   CASA works on behalf of children's best interests, to prevent them from falling through the cracks of the child welfare system that was put in place to help them.  Our volunteers are the eyes and ears of the court, visiting with children, reporting on their well-being, and ensuring that they receive necessary services.

Volunteers must complete background checks and a personal interview, in addition to the 30-hour training program. After training, volunteers are sworn in by the Court and work with CASA attorneys for the duration of their selected case.  Our volunteers play a unique role in a child's life, often becoming the only consistent adult in a child's life while their case is open in Family Court.

Help a child thrive! You can help break a cycle of abuse or neglect for a child.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.  To obtain an application with information about training, and to learn more about CASA, please visit the RI Family Court CASA homepage at: https://www.courts.ri.gov/Courts/FamilyCourt/Pages/Court Appointed Special Advocate.aspx,

If you have any questions, please email kpoli@courts.ri.gov and nmartin@courts.ri.gov.  Thank you for your interest!

Volunteer: Advocacy & Policy Committee member

The Rhode Island Black Business Association’s (RIBBA) historic and groundbreaking work in the advocacy and policy space has created awareness of the plight of small businesses in Rhode Island.
