Who We Are
Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) Is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing community by promoting the awareness, appreciation, and application of Black Storytelling in Rhode Island through performance, educational, and cultural experiences for all.
What We Do
RIBS presents storytelling programs in schools, libraries, community centers and events throughout the year. RIBS also presents workshops on storytelling and partners with other organizations to provide high quality cultural arts experiences.
Annually, RIBS presents FUNDA FEST: A Celebration of Black Storytelling.
This much anticipated and highly visible event is the flagship RIBS program and reaches a statewide audience of several thousand.
The week long celebration is observed for the week surrounding the Martin Luther King Holiday in January. Tellers present a variety of performances and workshops throughout the state of Rhode Island, including school performances for K-12, intergenerational and family work shops, a Liar's Contest, spoken word and storytelling concerts for adult audiences.
